Are we enough?

Why are we so hard on ourselves? Do we live up to our expectations of what we want to be? Are you the best version of you? Are there areas in your life that just don’t make you happy? Are there things we can change? Is any of this in our control, or are we just right where we are supposed to be?

Everything is in our control to some extent. Not happy in your job, get a new one. Not happy in your relationship, end it. Not happy being overweight, lose it.

All these things are so much easier said than done. Finding a job is so hard these days; there are more people than jobs available. Even if you have an incredible education and a Masters or PhD, you may be too over-qualified and companies often hire people with less education so that they don’t have to pay a higher salary. Sometimes people will get laid-off and soon after, younger people are hired for the same reason, a lower salary can be paid which mean the company profits more. Does this mean that we should just stay right where we are and remain unhappy?

Often times in relationships, people find themselves to be extremely unhappy but staying together has become routine. When a person’s partner or spouse has been in their lives for a long time, even though their relationship might be unhealthy or unhappy, it’s scary to consider ending it and might feel easier to stay where you are rather than start all over again. Does this mean that we stay put and remain unhappy?

When one is overweight, the idea of wanting to be skinny is a great motivator, but it is so much easier to choose and enjoy ice cream, brownies, pizza or any fast food item rather than go for that salad. The idea of going to the gym and working out, sweating and dealing with an aching body resulting working out is a daunting. Should we give up and not go for the slimmer healthier body?

Change isn’t easy for anyone. If you really want it badly enough you need to put the work into it! I believe that we should not give up and not lose hope. We should keep trying to move away from an unhappy place in our lives.

But are we good enough? We definitely are. We should always look for the positive in every situation and be happy for what we do have! Not everyone has a job, a partner or the body they want. With appreciation, gratitude and positive planning, we can be content with what we do have and good things will likely be just around the corner.
